We are a team of pioneering neurosurgeons with clinical skills in the fields of cerebrovascular disorders, brain tumors, functional diseases, spinal cord diseases, and pediatric neurological diseases. We have established a network with other hospitals, including Konan Hospital (cerebrovascular disorders, diencephalic pituitary tumors), Sendai City Hospital (traumatic brain injury), Sendai Medical Center (cerebrovascular disorders, spinal cord surgery, skull base tumors), Furukawa Seiryo Hospital (stereotactic radiotherapy), Miyagi Hospital (functional neurosurgery), Miyagi Prefectural Children's Hospital (congenital malformations, pediatric neurosurgery), to provide integrated treatment and to select the most appropriate treatment for patients.
When it comes to diagnosis, in addition to our experienced specialists, we have state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment such as High-Field MRI, a High-Speed CT Scan device capable of producing three-dimensional images, PET, and SPECT. We communicate closely with diagnostic radiologists specializing in neurology to ensure prompt and accurate diagnosis and surgical planning.
Our facilities are equipped with the latest surgical microscopes, intraoperative fluorescence diagnostics, neuroendoscopes, surgical navigation systems, MRI-guided stereotactic brain surgery equipment, and various neurological-function-monitoring devices to minimize invasive procedures and maximize therapeutic effects. In addition, we place importance on postoperative adjuvant therapies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Furthermore, in light of the recent and rapid advances in fields of endovascular therapy (catheterization) and stereotactic radiotherapy (gamma knife, etc.), we are using these promising treatment modalities in a close collaboration with other departments such as our hospital’s Department of Endovascular Therapy, Konan Hospital’s Department of Endovascular Therapy, and The Furukawa Seiryo Suzuki Jiro Memorial Gamma House. By combining these therapies with surgery, we are capable of further minimizing the invasiveness of treatments.
Through use of the abovementioned approaches, we pursue the most beneficial treatment for patients from the viewpoint of EBM (evidence-based medicine) and Tailor-Made Treatment by making full use of our professional staff and the latest diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. The diagnostic and therapeutic techniques surrounding neurosurgery are advancing remarkably, and new findings are being generated by the day, which is why we strive to pursue the latest knowledge, cultivate applied skills, and always be humble in our "contemplation" about patients and their illnesses.
It is also a vital mission of ours to improve the future of neurosurgical practice. In addition to medical care, the University Hospital has other important responsibilities such as research activities and training of future clinical and research leaders. We appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation.
